Why are you redesigning? Your site is good, you don’t need to change it.

Well you already have a great design, if it gets better I’ll be interested to see it =]

I’m glad you like the existing design, I really am. I do too.

However, there are various things about the current design that annoy me and, judging by my access logs, there are some things that just don’t work.

I think the current design is way too cluttered, too busy. I think there are too many things teasing the eye away from the content.

The new design is much simpler and easier on the eye. There’s a lot of whitespace, and a simplified right-hand panel. I have been able to achieve this without sacrificing any functionality at all.

When I go live with the new design (real soon now) I will write a rationale. I’m sure I’ll be able to justify the changes.

I’ll keep a copy of the current design - just in case, so I’ll be able to revert back to it if the new one is disliked.

Thank you all for your patience.

Why not have a system whereby users can select the design they want, stored temporarily for the session?

That’s not something I’d considered Haze.

I think this (current) design is too “heavy”, if you know what I mean. I think it’s confusing and overly complicated.

The new design is very clean - and I’m hoping to having it up in a few hours.

The biggest problem with your suggestion is that my content is not 100% seperated from my presentation. It’s close, very close - probably 90%+ in the new version. Once I have completely seperated the two, then your suggestion becomes feasible.

However, I believe that the design itself is almost irrelevant: it’s the content that you visit the site for (hopefully).

Thus my two major concerns are information and the UI. If they are both good enough, then the aesthetics become less of an issue.

Having said that, I think the new design is very attractive - only time will tell as to whether or not my audience approves.

What I will do, is take on board all feedback and suggestions. There are also some features that I want to add, which I’ll open up to discussion first. This we, we can all get the site we want.
