Interesting read. I don’t use Time Machine to backup my Mac. I just plugin my external drive via USB and use rsync. I guess that’s just what I’ve been comfortable using coming from a *nix background.
I suspect that Time Machine uses rsync or a similar process itself. I think it’s a very clever backup system. The whole “start it and forget it” thing is really compelling. It just works. I’ve restored a few files from my Time Machine backup and the process is ridiculously easy. It feels very dependable.
Urban Mainframe is the personal website of Jonathan M. Hollin. It consists of an eclectic collection of links carefully harvested from the farthest corners of the Internet, a couple of self-penned articles - and the occasional hint of humour.
