I fully agree, and really despise this solution. Especially with MT Blacklist it is essentially redundant anyway. Are you aware of any patches or ways of turning it off?

No Paul, I’m not aware of any patch. However, I have seen some sites that at least display the target URL (on mouseover) - so you get to see where you’re going before you click the link.

I might be worth a little Googling! :-)

PS what software is this? It seems to be interpreting my [underscore]type[underscore] as emboldening, but in a URL.

It’s a home-grown CMS (Shapeshifter). The “emboldening” is triggered by John Gruber’s Markdown plug-in which I employ within my comments handler (see: “The Ultimate Comments Handler). The bug is probably in my implementation! :-(
