You can try out the Last.FM/AudioScrobbler.com service, where you can download a plugin for iTunes on a Mac. Sometimes the service is down, but you get a free radio, it records what you listen to (and gives stats), and provides the same basic functionality.

This looks promising, though it’s not ready yet.

Thanks Lee and Jonathan for your recommendations, both are worthy of consideration, especially Doug’s AppleScript.

However, I have recently been experimenting with “Recent Tunes” from Freshly Squeezed Software and it seems to fit my needs to a large degree. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to support album art and iTMS/Amazon affiliate links like “Now Playing” did, so I’m probably going to have to code something up myself.

I’ll post again when I have a solution I’m 100% happy with.

I contacted Brandon a few days ago and he told me that he’s working an a Mac version. Very slowly though but there is hope. I use the Windows plugin at work where I have to use one of those Wintel-computers. But usually most of my music I listen at home. Hopefully he’s not working too slow ;)

That’s cool Arne. Thanks for the feedback.
